German forces had been severely weakened but they still put up fanatical resistance as the Soviet armies reached the walls of Berlin. The 1st Guards Tank Army began its assault on Berlin near the Seelowe Heights, the last natural barrier before the city itself. The Germans had fortified the ridge with infantry and plenty of flak 88 AT guns.
Objectives: Secure the Heights by capturing the villages.
